Okay, for those of you that are a bit new to UCGO, updating the game when updates are released can be a bit confusing. There are a few common mistakes people make when downloading and installing these updates, which can include not placing the update package in the right folder after downloading it, or forgetting to extract it. So, in this blog post, I'll give those who are a bit confused a little step by step guide on how to update UCGO.
How do I find the update?
In this UCGO server, updates are released off the main website every now and again. These updates are far and few in between, but are required to play the game the way it's supposed to be played, and to avoid the unthinkable: crashing the game.Anyways, to find the updates, go to the main website: http://www.ucgoserver.com This is where all announcements, news, and updates are located. Once there, look for the update post itself. I'll use the newest color update as an example.
Okay, to start with, I use Firefox, but the general aspect should be the same whether you're using IE, Chrome, Safari, etc. Once on the main site, click on the .exe file with blue lettering. Save the file.
After the file is located and saved
When you save the file, you'll have to wait a bit depending on your internet speed, so grab something to eat while you wait. Once downloaded however, follow these steps:
- Go to where your browser normally places downloaded files, and locate UCGOupdate.exe.
- Once the file is located, you'll notice it is a self-extracting archive, so drag it into your UCGO folder or wherever your game files are stored.
- Once it is in said folder, double click it, like the image to the right shows.
- When double clicked, a warning will show. Click 'Run'.
- Allow the program to do it's business.
When the program is finished running
When the archive has successfully completed, open UCGO and check to see if the update has worked. In the case of the update used to demonstrate, if you can see the new-colored suits that the update contained, you should be good to go. If not, read back through the steps and try again, or ask in-game for help.
